Can you retake the FCLE?
Yes. High-school students get two attempts in each testing window and must wait 30 calendar days between attempts. College students retake it through their testing center under the college's own rule; college testing pages show waits from 7 days to 30 days, and some colleges have had no waiting period.
High school
- Two attempts in each of the two state windows (fall and spring).
- At least 30 calendar days between attempts. The FAQ gives the reason: to allow for remediation.
- The retake rules are for students who have not yet passed; a passing score is submitted to the state for the student's transcript and exempts the student from the postsecondary assessment.
- The state documents say nothing about a fee for the high-school administration; it is given by the school during the school day.
College
Each Florida College System and State University System institution sets its own retake rule for its testing center. College testing pages show a range: some allow a retake after 7 days, some require 30 days, and some have had no waiting period; most give the exam without charge. Check your college's testing page before you book. From college testing-center pages, not the state documents; rules differ by college and change.
Before a retake
The score report gives a score for each competency. Study the weakest competency first. Our practice tests score by competency too, and each explanation names the source document so you can read the original.
