What changes for the Texas U.S. History EOC in 2027-28?

The state replaces its current testing program with the Student Success Tool beginning in 2027-28. The U.S. History end-of-course exam continues as the required end-of-year assessment, with optional beginning-of-year and middle-of-year assessments for the high school courses, and the December and June opportunities continue. English II is the exam being phased out, with its last administration in June 2027.

What continues

What ends

The English II end-of-course exam is phased out: its last administration is June 2027, and it is no longer a graduation requirement for students who graduate after August 31, 2027 (the questions and answers and the manual). U.S. History is not affected.

The draft 2028 design

The agency's draft blueprint for the spring 2028 U.S. History test keeps the same four strands with 46 to 48 questions worth 52 points (40 to 44 one-point and 4 to 6 two-point questions), lists multiple choice, multiselect, inline choice and multipart as the question types, and says subscores will no longer be reported for the strands. Until then the current 64-question, 78-point design applies.

Everything on this site is organized by the four categories, so it serves both designs.
